Where to Start

For a recent arrest or current local custody question, the first official contact is the Ontonagon County Sheriff's Office and Jail.

The courthouse is at 725 Greenland Road, Ontonagon, MI 49953. County office hours are listed as 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; most offices close from noon to 1:00 p.m. The sheriff page does not publish separate jail lobby hours, so call 906-884-4901 before visiting, bringing property, requesting records, or asking about public counter service.

Use the following routing list to match the question to the correct official source or site page.

• For someone believed to be in the Ontonagon County Jail, begin with the sheriff/jail phone number and the jail inmate records guide.
• For a booking photo or mugshot, review jail roster mugshots and ask the sheriff whether the photo can be released or requested under Michigan FOIA.
• For charges, arraignment, bond orders, hearings, or dispositions, use court records after a jail arrest. District Court can be reached at 906-884-2865, and Circuit Court or Clerk contact is 906-884-4255.
